Biography of John W. Rice


In 1942, with some assistance from the Davis family, Dr. John Rice, Bucknell Class of 1914, and a former student and colleague of Dr. Davis, began processing, arranging and describing the Nelson F. Davis Photographic Collection.

A member of the Department of Biology faculty from 1916 through 1958, Rice served as Chair of the Department from 1939 through 1942, and again from 1944 until his retirement in 1958.

He established the University Health Service in 1925, and served as Director until his death in 1971.
