Preserving Valuable Resources
Many items in our collections are irreplaceable. Patrons are asked to assist in the preservation of valuable resources by adhering to the procedures outlined below:
- Please do not bring food or beverages into the Reading Room
- Use pencils to take notes
- Avoid placing any items on materials, except the book weights provided
- Adjust book supports to protect covers and spines from damage
- Guard against staining paper by contact with moisture and natural oils on hands
- Hold photographs and loose sheets by the edges
- Turn pages carefully to avoid tears
- Maintain order of materials in folders or boxes
- Be aware that most materials are too fragile to be photocopied
