Access to the Collections
The collections are available to faculty, students, and staff of Bucknell University, and to visiting scholars. Visitors are encouraged to apprise the library of their plans to use the collections.
Information for Off-Campus Researchers The primary mission of Special Collections/University Archives is to serve the administration, faculty, students, and alumni of Bucknell University, and scholars conducting research for academic purposes. With extremely high use by university patrons, and no staff person specifically assigned to answer off-campus reference questions other than those from scholars, a rather lengthy delay may occur between receipt of an inquiry and the departmental response.

Availability of Materials The Bertrand Library endorses the American Library Association/Society of American Archivists' "Joint Statement on Access to Original Research Materials" which permits all bona fide scholars to use the materials. However, factors such as stipulations of the donor and the physical condition of individual items may affect the availability of some sources. All Special Collections materials are used in the LaFayette Butler Reading Room according to the guidelines in "Notes to Users of Special Collections." Materials may not be removed from the library. Guides to the Collections All published materials are recorded in the Bertrand Library's online catalog. A series of registers is available for many of the manuscript collections. These finding aids provide information on arrangement of series, item-level descriptions, and Names Indexes.
