Project Selection CriteriaDigital Projects and CollectionsISR recognizes the need to provide support – in terms of technology, infrastructure, and recommended best practices – for projects that are fundamental to the mission of the university. ISR’s Digital Initiatives Group (DIG) is charged with supporting the use of digital objects at Bucknell in the following ways: - Teaching – support creation of personal collections of digital objects by faculty and departments; support storage and access needs for digitized images from on-campus slide libraries; provide a mechanism to integrate locally-created images with images from licensed collections.
- Learning – support students’ use of digital objects in coursework and service learning projects; foster an understanding among faculty, staff, and students of the intellectual property issues surrounding use of digital objects.
- Scholarship – facilitate storage of and access to projects or materials (for which there is no analog equivalent) and scholarly discourse in digital format; support original scholarship of Bucknell authors in light of crisis in scholarly communication.
- Administration – provide support for collections of digital objects and associated data for Bucknell’s administrative departments.
- Preservation – facilitate preservation of fragile or delicate objects (i.e., objects in the Samek Art Gallery or Special Collections/University Archives) by providing access to digital representations.
When selecting projects for implementation, projects facilitating teaching, learning, scholarship, administration, or preservation as described above are our first priority. Other projects may be chosen for implementation at the discretion of the Digital Initiatives Group based on available funding and resources, but not at the expense of projects falling into the categories listed above.
Projects are implemented as resources (including time, personnel, and equipment) are available.
