AMICA

Digital Image Collection

AMICA Library

The AMICA Library (Art Images from Cartography Associates) is a collection of over 114,000 high-quality images of artwork from 22 museums throughout the United States and Canada including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery of Canada. (See below for a complete list of contributors.) ISR has licensed this library from Cartography Associates to improve access to images for use in classroom teaching. Cultures and time periods range from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt to contemporary installation art and include thousands of images in between. For more details visit the AMICA website.

Usage

ISR has licensed access to this collection from Cartography Associates for Bucknell students, faculty, and staff to use strictly for educational purposes, i.e., in-class presentations, research, and student papers. Searching AMICA

Data provided by the museums allows users to search by Title, Creator Name (Artist), Culture/Nationality, Style or Period, or Object Type. Users can also search across all fields with a "keyword" search.

  • Over 30% from Europe, including ancient Greece and Rome
  • Over 50% from the Americas including Pre-Columbian (Meso-American)
  • Over 8% from Asia including ancient Asia Minor
  • Over 6% works from Africa including ancient Egypt

Time Periods

  • Over 3,800 works dated between 6000 and 1 BC
  • Over 8,000 works dated between 0 and 1500 AD
  • Over 4,000 works dated between 1501 and 1600 AD
  • Over 6,000 works dated between 1601 and 1700 AD
  • Over 8,000 works dated between 1701 and 1800 AD
  • Over 23,000 works dated between 1801 and 1900 AD
  • Over 50,000 works dated between 1901 and the present

Access is restricted to members of the Bucknell community. Click here to preview the collection via the Insight web browser. Web browser pop-ups must not be blocked. The full AMICA collection can only be viewed through the Java Client installed on ISR-facilitated computers. Go to the Start Menu in Windows and choose Programs » Luna Imaging » Insight 5.1 and log-in using your file services username and password.
