You attended Bucknell University as a member of the Class of 1963, and received the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics degree.
Since graduation you have distinguished yourself in your profession, beginning your career with Advanced Engineering, Inc. from 1963 to 1971 where you were responsible for reconnaissance systems, analysis receiver programs, and advanced receiver techniques studies. From 1971 to 1981, as the Director for Advanced Programs at Litton Industries, you managed the company's new business activities, and from 1981 to 1983 you served as the Vice President, Program Management. As President and Chief Operating Officer of AEL Industries from 1983 until 1993 you oversaw the company's design and manufacture of countermeasures systems, receiver systems, and radar target simulators, as well as the installation and integration of avionics systems into military aircraft. From 1993 to 1998 you served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and member of the Board of Directors of GEC-Marconi Hazeltine, which specialized in the design, development, and production of advanced electronics, primarily for military applications.
With 35 years of aerospace and defense experience, you currently serve as Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors of BAE SYSTEMS plc, and as President and Chief Executive Officer of BAE SYSTEMS North America, Inc., a leading defense, aerospace, and information technology company. Under your leadership, BAE SYSTEMS North America's operations have doubled, with over 20,000 current employees and annual revenues in excess of $4 billion. BAE SYSTEMS North America is now one of the five leading suppliers to the U. S. Department of Defense, a tribute to your vision, and your leadership.
In recognition of the remarkable service rendered in fostering effective transatlantic cooperation between the United States and United Kingdom defense industries, you were appointed Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by authority of Her Majesty the Queen of England in 2002.
You serve on the Board of Governors of the Electronic Industries Association as well as the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Aerospace Industries Association.
Your accomplishments, service, and dedication to your profession have earned you the respect and gratitude of Bucknell University's engineering alumni.
