Tuition and Fees
Questions often arise about the financial guarantee required for admission of international students to Bucknell University. This is written to clarify these requirements and the calculations that go into establishing the actual figures.
The financial guarantee for international students is required by federal law, and enforced by the State Department and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) under the auspices of a Student (F-1) Visa. Students must certify that they have sufficient financial support to complete the program of study, and they must show a documented guarantee for at least the first nine months of study. (Support from the same or equally dependable sources must be assured for program duration). It is left to the individual institution to determine the amount of support needed and to verify that it has been provided in order to issue the student I-20 document.
The actual figures used by International Student Services are adjusted annually, based on cost of living and tuition considerations. The figures for each year are built upon figures obtained by Bucknell's Office of Financial Aid. The following items are included in the educational expense budget (Title IV and Bucknell programs) for a resident, full-time undergraduate student at Bucknell University for the 2009-2010 academic year:
