Sociology of Developing Societies
Sociology of Developing Societies explores the different ways in which the concept of development has been conceived and practiced. It will situate the notion of development within the discourse of the Sociology of Development. The course will trace the intellectual evolution of development as a concept in its various paradigms. Sociology of Developing Societies attempts to ask and answer the question: Is development still considered a realistic objective for some countries in the so-called Third World? The course will also on various occasions, examine development issues and problems of the following areas, using a case study approach: Africa, the Caribbean and East Asia. Special attention will be paid to issues of gender and development.
