Bequests

Bequests allow a donor to retain the lifetime use of their assets, reduce estate tax, and make a significant gift to Bucknell. Bequests may be for a specific piece of property, a fixed amount of money, a percentage, or the residue of an estate.

For additional information, contact the Office of Gift Planning at 570-577-3200 or email giftplanning@bucknell.edu

The following are suggested forms for bequests that may be used when including Bucknell in your estate plan.

  • Bequest for General Endowment: "I give and bequeath to Bucknell University, a Pennsylvania corporation located at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, the sum of $__________ /or/ _____ percent of my estate, which sum shall be added to the general, unrestricted permanent endowment funds of the university, so that the income derived therefrom may be used for general university purposes."

  • If no endowment/scholarship agreement exists for the fund, please contact the Office of Gift Planning to prepare such an agreement in advance. This will guarantee that Bucknell can use the fund as you wish and ensure that the required endowment minimum will be met.

  • Bequest Naming the University Residuary Beneficiary: "I give and bequeath all the rest of my property, real and personal, to Bucknell University, a Pennsylvania corporation located at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to be applied to the general purposes of the University."

Note: Retirement benefits and insurance proceeds are distributed to the person listed on the beneficiary designation form, not the person named in your will. Therefore, to ensure that Bucknell benefits from such assets, you must name the university on the plan administrator's designation form.
