Geography
Geography students study the ways people shape and give meaning to their environments and are shaped by them. From study of globalization, nation building, and individual identity, human geography (social science) courses are concerned especially with the political, economic, social, and cultural processes and resource practices both in and between places. Physical geography (natural science) courses focus on the earth systems that create the human environment, such as weather, soils, biogeography, and earth-sculpting processes.
Major ProgramsThe geography department offers both a major and a minor.
Many geography students doublemajor, combining geography with a complementary area of interest.
Students may focus on either human or physical geography courses or a combination of both. Human geography courses receive social science credit. Physical geography courses receive natural science credit.
