Elementary Education
Bachelor of Science in Education
Successful completion of this program leads to recommendation for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification for Kindergarten through Grade 6.
Throughout the program, students take a combination of general education and professional education courses.
Several field experiences are built into the program to give students opportunities to apply their developing knowledge and skills to real children in real classrooms. The program culminates with the student-teaching experience, which occurs during either the fall or spring semester of the senior year.
Students not planning to teach in Pennsylvania are encouraged to investigate the requirements in states of interest. In addition to completing Education requirements, students are encourage to complete an academic concentration in an area that would typically be taught in a school setting, to gain fluency in a language appropriate to the demographics where they wish to teach, or to take additional course work in content areas appropriate to teaching in a school setting.
Keep in mind that the program is structured to help you achieve two goals:
(1) a B.S. degree from Bucknell and
(2) a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate (K-6).
If you choose to pursue this program, we strongly urge you to consult carefully and frequently with an adviser from the Education Department.
We have detailed advising checklists that will help you choose the right courses to meet the two goals of the program.
Please send your questions and inquiries to Professor Katharyn Nottis.
