Students who are interested in traveling with the Brigade in either January or March must plan on attending one of two interest meetings. These meetings are held in the fall in the Gallery Theater of the Elaine Langone Center. The application deadline has already passed for the 2014 trips. If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more about traveling in 2015 please contact Jennifer at 570-577-3973.
For specific dates or if you have additional questions please contact the Office of Civic Engagement by calling 577-3973.
Many individuals are eager to be a part of the Bucknell Brigade to Nicaragua but space limitations prevent us from allowing everyone to travel with one of the delegations. Participants who have been selected for one of the trips, therefore, are expected to contribute actively in positive ways to group unity and the goals of the project. Participants in the Bucknell Brigade, whether working on campus, or traveling with the delegation in Nicaragua, act as representatives of a volunteer orginization committed to service learning. The group's mission is not only to help others less fortunate and to increase international understanding, but to educate ourselves about the work of building community, here and abroad.
Reminder: Each Brigadista is expected to volunteer at least 10 hours/semester to fundraising, soliciting donations, publicity, etc. Track your volunteer time by recording the details.

To All Brigadistas and Brigade Supporters:
Our goal is to raise $40,000 this year to maintain the health clinic in Nueva Vida. This money pays for clinic staff, health supplies, medicines, and lab equipment. Use the links below to find material that can be used to solicit funds to help the Bucknell Brigade reach our goal. We encourage you to personalize the cover letter with your own written notes and send it along with one rainbow form and one orange wish list to potential donors. Think about who would be glad to see you involved in this kind of service work and mail or hand deliver letters to your relatives, your former teachers, your doctor or dentist, religious groups, the Spanish Club at your high school, your uncle's Rotary club, your grandmother's Red Hat society, your teammates, your co-workers, and other friends.
Money raised in this way goes either to the Bucknell Brigade to help subsidize our travel, or to Jubilee House Community directly to support community development in Nueva Vida. Donations to either are tax deductible.
These forms should not be used solicit sponsorship for your own travel fee. If you would like to adapt information from this material to ask for a group or individual to help subsidize the cost of your trip, feel free to do so. Your own supporters can write a check to you, or write a check to "Bucknell Brigade". Be sure to have your supporter indicate your name on the memo line of the check so that we know this is to help cover your fee. If you have questions, ask your delegation leaders or contact the Office of Civic Engagement. Good luck!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Getting Ready for Nicaragua
Attend the required mini-curriculum sessions.
In addition to the topics outlined in the sessions, each meeting will also include important announcements, reminders and information about your participation in the Brigade. These sessions are required of every participant. Please notify your trip leader if for some reason you anticipate missing a session. Because there are so many who want to participate in this experience, we have selected those who feel they can make a serious commitment to this service project. These sessions will help you prepare for what you will experience in Nicaragua. If you have unexcused absences, you will be in jeopardy of losing your seat on the delegation.
