Study Abroad

Amy Seward

I studied through the IES Berlin program in the Spring semester of my junior year. Studying in Germany there was the greatest educational experience I could have hoped to have in my college career. The classes I took were interesting, but most intriguing to me was Berlin's fascinating sense of history admist the hustle and bustle of a vibrant metopolis. This was perhaps the most striking aspect of the city: the mixing of old and new. Living with a German woman in former East Berlin, I had the opportuntiy to witness firsthand part of Berlin's transition from the DDR to the new German capital. All around me were cranes and construction, preparing the city for the future. At the same time, statues of Marz and Engels spoke of days gone by.
