General Field Equipment
| One category often overlooked when descibing facilities and equipment is the basic field equipment that is the backbone of our program. We have a well-stocked equipment room, loaded with the basic equipment that is so important to the operation of our labs and research. If a student or faculty member has the need for a particular piece of equipment, we have an unwritten motto that says: If they need it, we'll get it". |
The Equipment Room: The Equipment Room in the Geology department is stocked with basic field equipment such as augers, tapes, first-aid kits, Brunton and Silva compasses, hammers, hand lenses, etc. Students working on projects can sign out this equipment and are responsible for its safe return. |
|
| Other Field Equipment available for Student and Faculty use includes: Field cameras: 35mm, digital and video; Geophysical Equipment; Surveying gear - ranging from compasses to a laser theodolite; Tents, Flourescent vests, hard hats, snake guards; Portable Cell Phones and CB Walkie-Talkies; |
We can build it too! Although we purchase much of our field equipment, Bucknell has an Engineering Machine Shop and Physics Shop staffed by extremely competent and helpful staff. Over the past several years, they have helped our Lab Directors design and build equipment like the vibracore rig, the buckbuggy, stainless steel ground water probes, stilling wells, core catchers and tree ring core cutting blocks. Our new building, the O'Leary Center, will have a "Project Room" where faculty and students will have space to design and build their own facilities to help them with their research. |
