Mitchell to be inaugurated as Bucknell's 16th president

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Brian C. Mitchell will be inaugurated as the 16th president of Bucknell University Saturday, April 30, at noon in the Sojka Pavilion.
In his inaugural address, "The Promise of Bucknell," Mitchell will reveal his vision and dreams for Bucknell's future.
The Saturday ceremony will feature a procession of about 100 students carrying national and international flags representing the states and countries where Bucknell students live. Student members of various groups, clubs, and organizations also plan to line the procession route outside Sojka Pavilion.
Music for the inaugural ceremony will be performed by the Bucknell University Concert Chorale, directed by William Payn, and the Bucknell University Brass and Percussion Ensemble, directed by William Kenny. The program includes "Dear Bucknell," arranged by Kenny.
The platform party will include representatives for the Bucknell Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, learned societies, colleges and universities, and the Borough of Lewisburg.
"The university is looking forward to the celebration of the inauguration of President Mitchell, that will begin a new phase of Bucknell's illustrious history," said Judy Mickanis, co-chair of the inaugural committee. "This is a celebration of our pride and loyalty to our past and our commitment to the future."

The weekend's activities include many events open to the public including:
an Interfaith Inauguration Worship Service, Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Rooke Chapel. The service, with music by the Rooke Chapel Choir directed by William Payn, will feature two works by members of the Bucknell faculty: "With What Shall I Come Before the Lord" by Payn and "Baccalaureate Hymn" by Jackson Hill.
the annual student and faculty art show at the Samek Art Gallery, Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.
the Blue and Orange football game Saturday, 3 p.m., Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
a Rooke Chapel Ringers Concert Saturday, 8 p.m., Rooke Chapel.
In addition to events on campus, the annual Lewisburg Arts Festival will take place in downtown Lewisburg. Shuttles will be available from the Smith Hall parking lot to Lewisburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, see http://www.lewisburgartscouncil.com/
