Our Town: Lewisburg is scheduled for broadcast on WITF-TV Monday, March 7, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 13, at 6 p.m.
No one knows a community better than its residents and one week in January two dozen community volunteers, armed with camcorders, set out to capture the best of their hometown - Lewisburg.
Founded in 1785, Lewisburg is home to Bucknell University and was recently nominated to the Register of Historic Places.
"The Our Town series is a modern twist on the concept of a `day-in-the-life' picture book, by using home videos instead of still pictures to profile the people, places, and happenings of a particular town on a given day," WITF said. "Instead of printed captions, the people who do the videotaping are narrators."
The resulting footage captures the personalities, businesses, activities, and history of the area.
The WITF Our Town series started in 2000 when WITF was looking for a unique way to more directly involve the public it serves. Since then, nearly 20 Pennsylvania communities have been recorded by local volunteers.
