Making Career Decisions
Career decision making and planning takes time, energy and commitment; because it is a lifelong process not an event. The Career Development Center is here to support you in your career decision-making throughout your college years and beyond. You can get started by making an appointment with a counselor or by attending Jumpstart, and by completing the following tasks. Learn About Yourself: In order to make a career decision, an individual must first clearly understand themselves in order to have a frame of reference from which to explore the world of work. A CDC staff member can assist you in exploring your values, skills, and interests. Self assessment tools are available both in the CDC and on-line. Make Decisions: This can sometimes be the hardest part, particularly if you haven't had much experience in making decisions for yourself. A CDC counselor can help with this process. Contact the CDC to set up an appointment. Understanding the World of Work: Most students are not aware of the variety of careers and job paths available to them. Here are some good places to start : Bucknell Online Career/Industry Resources The VAULT online career library is available to Bucknellians.
