It's time to JUMPSTART your career planning!
JUMPSTART is a special CDC program designed to aid underclass students in their career planning and development. This non-credit, 4-session class covers
- self-exploration
- industry research
- internship search tools (including resumes, cover letters, and interviewing skills)
Benefits:
Planning for life after Bucknell can be overwhelming and confusing at times. This course will help to clarify the basic steps of the career planning process in a supportive, small-group setting. The benefits include:
- a basic understanding of your interests, values, skills, preferred work environments, and personality type
- several career possibilities that match the above elements
- preliminary knowledge about industries/occupations of interest, and what you need to do to get there (including graduate study options)
- a CDC staff member to whom you can turn in the future for discussing your individual questions and goals
- information about specific organizations to target for a summer job, internship, externship, or volunteer experience
- improved resume and cover letter writing skills
- the preparation and knowledge necessary to perform a successful mock interview at the CDC
With all of this exploration under your belt, you will most likely find career planning to be less stressful. You will know more about the opportunities that are available to you and how to seek them out.
Will there be homework?
There will be several assignments designed to introduce you to the career planning process. While these assignments will not necessarily be challenging in an academic sense, each session will build on the assignments from the previous session. For this reason, you will benefit from the course to the extent that you make a commitment to completing the assignments in a thoughtful, reflective manner.
Do I have to attend all the sessions?
Due to the process-oriented nature of the course, the CDC strongly encourages participants to attend each of the four sessions.
