Interviews are not always required for graduate or professional school admissions. If an interview is part of your application process, be sure to prepare by researching the institution and be aware of what makes you a good candidate for the program. Video-taped Mock Interviews are available with a CDC counselor and you can schedule one by calling the CDC (7-1238). Below are some sample questions you can use for practice.
General Graduate School Questions:
Why are you interested in this school, in this program?
What do you plan to get from the program?
Tell me about your experiences at Bucknell.
What courses stimulated you the most?
Do you feel you can do the course work required of you here?
Do you want to study full or part-time?
What are your plans after you complete this degree?
What do you know about us?
Do you feel your grades/test scores are an accurate reflection of your abilities?
How do you handle competition?
When and how did you decide you wanted to go to grad school?
What questions do you have about the program?
What, do you feel, would be your biggest drawback to completing this program?
Are you depending on financial assistant to complete this program?
We have 800 applicants, and we only admit 250 students. Why should we admit you?
Sample Questions Asked in Medical School Interviews:
Why did you major in both Biology and Chemistry?
Explain your research. What was your role?
Why did you apply to this med school?
A thirteen year old girl walks into your office and asks you for an abortion. What do you do? How would you act, and what are your responsibilities as a physician? (What are your moral obligations/professional obligations?)
A young male (30's-40's) is suffering from terminal cancer, yet he refuses the chemotherapy you elect. What do you do?
What do you see as being the most difficult thing for you in being a doctor?
What are your extracurricular activities? Elaborate.
What is your biggest asset/fault?
What do you do in your spare time?
What would you like to see changed most in society?
What do you think about future directions in the medical field?
When did your interest in medicine originate?
