Lee Edmonds entered the Bucknell Hall of Fame in the came year as classmate and close friend Bob Bickel, following in the footsteps of classmate George Buckheit, a 1986 inductee. The outstanding trio came from one of the greatest cross country and track eras in Bucknell history. Edmonds was ranked among the top 50 American runners in 1978 and 1979, a significant achievement for a Bucknell runner. He ran on cross country teams that were a perfect 49-0 in dual meets and won Bucknell’s first four of 18 consecutive East Coast Conference and Patriot League championships. Edmonds competed in the 1978 NCAA Cross Country Championship, the first of five consecutive years the Bison qualified for the meet. Edmonds, a Lewisburg High School graduate, won ECC indoor titles in the 3-mile run in 1978 (tying with Bickel) and 1979, and outdoor titles in the 10K in 1978 and 1979. In 1978, he was second in the IC4A 10K to score All-East recognition. That year he was also fifth in the Penn Relays 10K and 21st in the NCAA 10K. He repeated as All-East in 1979, placing third in the 10K. In addition to being tied with Bickel on the all-time indoor 5,000-meter list, he is fourth outdoors in the 5,000 (14:16.64) and third in the 10,000 (29:06.14). (Bucknell Hall of Fame Class of 2002)
