Search Engines: How Will They Find My Page?

TITLE BAR & DESCRIPTION

These are required fields that appear in the results of a search engine inquiry.

The Title Bar appears in the top left corner of the web browser when users are viewing your live page. Enter a label specific to the page. NOTE: Do not include "Bucknell University"; this appears automatically.

Example title: English Department || Faculty

The Description will appear on the results page of a web search (in Google, for example.)

NOTE: If you have used the "Inverted Pyramid" model when writing the text for your page (see Writing for the Web), then you may be able to copy & paste the first sentence or two of your text into the description field.

NOTE: On some pages, the title bar, description and keyword fields will be available only by clicking on the arrow to expand the Metadata Group Element.

KEYWORDS

Keywords are not required, but we recommend that you use keywords on the homepage of your site and on pages that have unique content that people might search for specifically (e.g. a conference; a specialized program or service.)

Keywords are the terms people might use when searching for this page in Google. Enter words or phrases that are unique to the content of your page, separated by commas; include common variations. If no "Keywords" field is visible, enter your keywords in the Meta Tags field.
