Making Links

Inserting a link into the text in the Body Copy area is simple:

Select the text that will become the link. Click the “Insert Link” icon . (PC users can also right click and choose “Insert Link”.)

The "Link Properties" section will vary based on the type of link you choose.

Internal Link:

Enter the xID if you are linking to a Bucknell page. You no longer need to add the .xml at the end of the xID. Once you type in the xID, Ingeniux will supply the page name.

Tip: To find the xID, you can scroll over the page in the site tree.

IMPORTANT: When directing users in and out of myBucknell, treat these page links as external links. See "External Link" below for more detail.

External Link:

Type or copy/paste the full URL(e.g. http://www.amazon.com). Be sure to select "Open in new window (_ blank)". Launching external links in a new window lets your readers know that they have left the official Bucknell site.

IMPORTANT: When directing users in and out of myBucknell, you *must* treat these page links as external links. Why? Because pages on the Bucknell public website pages are different file types and different root locations.

Sample public page: http://www.bucknell.edu/x19.xml. Notice the "www" beginning and the ".xml" ending.

Sample internal page: http://my.bucknell.edu/x52645.html. Notice the "my" beginning and the ".html" ending.

It is helpful to set myBucknell links to open in a new window so that your readers understand that they are moving between public and private pages.

Document Link:

Use the browse button to search your document folder in Ingeniux.

For more information about uploading and linking to documents see "Adding and Linking to Documents".

Anchor Link:

First, set the destination anchors. To do so, place your cursor next to the destination and click on the anchor icon. You will be prompted to enter an anchor name.

Second, highlight the text users will click on to reach the anchor point. Then click the “Insert Link” icon. Your available anchors will show up in the "Anchors" box.

Email Link:

Enter the recipient's email address.

Launching the email message in a new window reinforces to your readers that they have left the official Bucknell site and are now sending an email message.
