Public Safety Director Jason Friedberg said offenses ranging from tampering with fire equipment to the recent Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity vandalism occur frequently on the weekends and mostly at night. Friedberg and Public Safety are working to differentiate between the severities of the cases and are working together with other campus organizations to bring about a stop to such crimes. Friedberg said tampering with fire prevention is one of the most dangerous forms of vandalism—hence, the newly posted fliers in most residence halls warning of a $500 fine for offenders. Public Safety is working together with Housing and Residential Life and the Inter-Fraternity Council to bring a stop to such dangerous offenses as destroying smoke detectors and pulling alarms unnecessarily.
