The Barry R. Maxwell Award

Purpose:

The purpose of the Maxwell Award is to acknowledge, recognize and celebrate the exceptional collaborative efforts of cross-functional groups, project teams, and task forces, that make outstanding contributions to the Bucknell community.

Eligibility:

Nominations for the award can come from any member of the Bucknell community. Members of a group may nominate their own group. Given the Award's emphasis on collaboration outside of traditional work groups, individual departments are no longer eligible for consideration. Nominations from previous years may be resubmitted for consideration this year. Nominations should include: (1) the name of the group; (2) a listing of its members; and (3) a brief description of how the group's efforts relate to one or more of the Maxwell Award Criteria (see below).

Nomination Criteria:

The Maxwell Award celebrates the efforts of groups whose members have demonstrated success in working collaboratively. As such, this award honors the accomplishments of former Vice President for Administration, Barry R. Maxwell, who throughout his long career, fostered well-planned, collaborative efforts, that brought forth the very best from the people involved.

Nominated groups should fit into one or more of the following categories:

  • Collaborative efforts - working in synergy with others, on campus and off;
  • Extraordinary effort - assuming new projects and additional responsibilities under tight deadlines for the advancement of the University;
  • Embracing new directions - moving boldly where no one has gone before;
  • Customer service - not only meeting but exceeding the needs of the customer;
  • Long history of excellent service - continuing a fine tradition;
  • Successful project completion - finishing up a project of significant impact to the University;
  • New envisioning of their role - evolution of service or eliminating old barriers to meet new demands and opportunities.

Process:

The President will announce the call for nominations each year. Nominations will be submitted using an online form. The members of the Administrative Personnel Committee and the Support Staff Personnel Committee will collaboratively review the nominations and submit a slate of unranked finalists to the President’s Senior Staff for final selection. There will be no more than two award winners selected.

The Maxwell Award recipients will be recognized at the annual Holiday Luncheon, and will receive formal recognition in the form of a framed certificate.
