Dominick LaCapra is Bryce and Edith M. Bowmar Professor of Humanistic Studies, Director of the Society for the Humanities, and Director of the School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell University. He received his PhD from Harvard University and has published numerous works of intellectual history, historiography and critical theory. Recent publications include Writing History, Writing Trauma (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2001), History and Reading: Tocqueville, Foucault, French Studies (University of Toronto Press, 2000) and History andMemory after Auschwitz (Cornell University Press, 1998).
