Satish Kumar, a former Jain monk, is the editor of Resurgence, a magazine that publishes on the theory and practice of good living including sustainable agriculture, local economics, ecological building, sacred architecture, appropriate technology, and deep ecology. Mr. Kumar founded the Small School in Hartland, a pioneering secondary school which incorporates ecological and spiritual values into its curriculum, and is the Program Director of Schumacher College, a residential international center for the study of ecological and spiritual values. Mr. Kumar holds honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Plymouth and the University of Lancaster, and in 2001 was presented with the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award for Promoting Gandhian Values Abroad. His autobiography, Path Without Destination, was published in 1999, and a second book, You Are, Therefore I Am - A Declaration of Dependence, was published in 2002. Mr. Kumar teaches, lectures and runs workshops internationally on reverential ecology, holistic education and voluntary simplicity.
