Ted Steinberg is Professor of History and Law at Case Western Reserve University. His books include Down toEarth: Nature’s Role in American History, which was nominated for the 2003 Pulitzer Prize in History and Acts of God: The Unnatural History of Natural Disaster in America which was also nominated for a Pulitzer. In addition, he is the author of Slide Mountain or The Folly of Owning Nature and Nature Incorporated: Industrialization andthe Waters of New England.
