 Excerpts from Volume 138, Number 12; Dec. 1, 2006By Catherine Heverling Editor-in-ChiefIn 1897, when the first issue of the University’s student newspaper rolled off the presses, it looked a lot different from what you hold in your hands today. The newspaper was originally called The Orange and Blue until it was renamed The Bucknellian in 1915. It began as a weekly broadsheet, as it is today, but the paper spent some time in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s as a tabloid and was printed twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays. In its 110-year history, The Bucknellian reported the effects of local and national events on the University. In 1936 The Bucknellian published a special issue covering the flood that inundated the area in March of that year. Lewisburg and the campus community saw history repeat itself again and again, during Hurricane Agnes in 1972, the flood of 1996 and when Hurricane Ivan rained on campus in 2004. (read full article)
