The HPV vaccine is now offered at Student Health Service!
The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine Gardasil is available at the Student Health Service. There are about 40 types of HPV, most infections with HPV don't cause any symptoms and go away on their own. Approximately 30 types of HPV are known as genital HPV and can cause genital warts and cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine helps protect againts 4 major types of HPV. This vaccine can prevent most genital warts and most cases of cervical cancer.
HPV vaccine is now routinely recommended for females 11-26 years of age. It is given as a 3 dose series of injections: 1st dose, then the 2nd dose 2 months after the 1st, and the 3rd dose 6 months after the 1st dose. We do recommend checking with your insurance carrier regarding coverage for the cost of the vaccine.
