What is LibX?

LibX is a Firefox browser extension that provides direct and easy access to our library’s resources from any web page.  LibX does not work with Internet Explorer or other web browsers.

LibX features:

  • Search the library’s catalog from any web page:
    • by using the LibX toolbar (see the image above).
    • by dragging-and-dropping text on the words "Search Bucknell Catalog" in the LibX toolbar (above).
    • or by selecting text, right clicking it, and selecting the appropriate option from the context menu (left).

  • Search using embedded cues

    LibX  supports one-click access to library resources through embedded cues on several popular web sites.  Click on the Bucknell icon on Google, Yahoo! Search, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the NY Times Book Review to see if the library has access to the book or journal being displayed or to repeat your search in the library catalog.

  • Quick full text access to journal articles

    LibX uses Google Scholar to search for articles and, if available, directs you to the full text electronic copy through the library's "E-journals" page.

  • Support for off-campus access via EZProxy

    LibX provides off-campus access to library resources through our Ezproxy server.  When prompted for log in, provide your Bucknell username and e-mail password.    

  • Installation Instructions

    1. Be sure that you are viewing this page in the Firefox browser.  Click on the "install" link below.
    2. If Firefox blocks your computer from installing the software, click on "edit options".  Make sure that www.libx.org appears in the "address of web site" box and click on "allow" and then click on "OK".
    3. Click on "install now" in the dialogue box that appears".
    4. Once the installation is complete you should see a dialogue box with a message that "the item will be installed after you restart Firefox".  Close this box and close the Firefox browser".
    5. Open up the Firefox browser again.  You should see the LibX toolbar installed.  Try it out and have fun!
