Essex Place and Meadow View
Tutoring
Tutoring for the children of Essex Place, a new affordable housing complex located within minutes of Bucknell's campus, and Meadow View located north on Route 15.
We offer tutoring assistance at each site two days a week and have been running extracurricular weekend and evening programing with the help of many student groups and organizations.
Student volunteers, coordinated by Service-Learning staff, provide individual attention, focusing on homework help and supplemental educational material in the areas of reading, languages and math skills. There is also time each session for students to engage in educational games and activities with students.
Program Details
Snacks, books, school supplies and other materials are provided for the participants by the Office of Civic Engagement as well as through generous donations from the Lewisburg elementary schools, Bucknell's Management 101 classes, and student organizations. Through these efforts, a reading library has been established on-site at Essex Place and Meadow View. In the 2008-2009 school year, a Management 101 course adopted Essex Place for their service-learning project and purchased computers and educational software for use in the community room.
For more information on volunteering as a tutor, or conducting an extracurricular session, email Amy Davis at aem016@bucknell.edu or call 570-577-3521.
