By Nilanjana Saha Features EditorBob Woodward, an award-winning journalist and author, will speak to the Class of 2007 at the 157th Commencement on May 20. Currently the assistant managing editor of The Washington Post, Woodward established himself as one of the pre-eminent journalists after he, along with Carl Bernstein, exposed the Watergate scandal surrounding the Nixon administration in 1972. “[Woodward’s] work has challenged the concept of power in our democratic system,” said Loren Fishkind, president of the senior class. After graduating from Yale in 1965, Woodward served in the Navy for four years. He began working at the Post in 1971 and since then has published more than 10 No. 1, best-selling works of nonfiction. “Woodward is an extremely accomplished journalist. He is widely thought of across his profession and he has maintained his national stature,” Chief Communications Officer Pete Mackey said. Woodward’s contribution to investigative journalism throughout the last three decades, especially during the disclosure of the Watergate scandal and the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, helped the Post win the Pulitzer Prize twice.
