Internship Resources
We encourage you to consider a public affairs internship during your undergraduate career. There are countless opportunities related to government, politics, law, human rights, international relations and more that will allow you to deepen your understanding of politics. Internships also allow you to get involved in the political process, explore potential career choices, and gain professional skills, work experience and contacts. Internships can be part of a program or you can create your own internship opportunity.
Finding an Internship
A great place to begin your search for an internship is through the Career Development Center's information on finding and securing an internship. The CDC can help guide you to an internship that is right for you.
You can also look through the Political Science Department’s list of possible internship programs. We do not endorse any of these programs. We urge you to find out as much as you can about any program, and talk to past participants.
Political Science Spring Internship in Local Politics
The Political Science Department offers a spring internship program in state and local politics. This one credit course combines 6 hours a week with local hosts such as the Union County Court House, the Red Cross, and Lewisburg Borough manager, and in- class time to help you get a full understanding of how local politics functions. The course, while run in the Spring, has an application process that takes place in the Fall term. For more information contact Professor Atiya Stokes-Brown.
State Legislative Fellowship
The university is proud to participate in the Pennsylvania State Legislative Fellowship Program. Bucknell can nominate up to one junior or senior per term to participate in this program which gives you hands on experience in Harrisburg. This one semester commitment is a fabulous opportunity for gaining real world experience, contacts and to participate in government. For more information contact Professor Atiya Stokes-Brown.
For those interested in earning academic credit for an internship
The decision on whether to award academic credit for internships is made by the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and not at the department level. The process is outlined on the Career Development Center's "Internship Credit FAQs" site.
