Lack of resources hinders Psych Services

Insufficient funding of the University’s Psychological Services for the past seven years has resulted in understaffing and an inability to create new programs to benefit the well-being of students on campus.

Current Director of Psychological Services Linda Locher was notified of the problem four years ago when she joined the staff and associate academic deans recommended additional staffing.

The situation has not improved. Locher attributes the resource shortage to an increase in student demand for psychological services.

“Schools nationwide are seeing an increase in students with concerns,” Locher said.

Because of a high demand for one-on-one counseling, Psychological Services shifted its services from developmental programs to focus more on one-on-one counseling, commonly dealing with such issues as anxiety, depression and perfectionism. (read full article)
