University students threatened by RIAA

Two University members have been targeted by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for illegally downloading music files on the school network. The University will not release their names to the RIAA unless it receives a legal subpoena to do so.

The RIAA sent a legal notice to the University stating that two Internet Protocol (IP) addresses showed activity of excessive illegal file sharing. Beyond the IP addresses, the users have not been identified.

General Counsel Wayne Bromfield said the targeted users may be students or faculty members. (read full article)
