Alumni Greek Council Resolution on Hazing
WHEREAS: The Alumni Greek Council of Bucknell University was formed to promote the highest ideals of Greek Life, and consists of alumni/ae leaders from each of Bucknell’s Sororities and Fraternities; and
WHEREAS: Hazing is illegal in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and is against the policies of all of our national organizations; and
WHEREAS: Hazing has also been denounced in written statements by the National Panhellenic Conference, the National Interfraternity Conference, and by Bucknell’s Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council and the leadership of each of Bucknell’s Greek organizations; and
WHEREAS: We recognize the detrimental and dangerous consequences of hazing, both physical and mental, to the individuals and organizations involved; and
WHEREAS: Such activities cannot and must not be tolerated by any member of the Bucknell Community;
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved: That the Alumni Greek Council of Bucknell University strongly denounces all acts of hazing in any form; and
Be It Further Resolved: That we will call on each alumni/ae leadership body for our individual chapters to create and/or reaffirm their individual positions against hazing; and
Be It Further Resolved: That we will call on every Greek-affiliated member to educate him/herself as well as his/her peers, both Greek and non-Greek, about the issues, definitions, ramifications, and responses to hazing in any form; and
Be It Further Resolved: That the Alumni Greek Council at Bucknell University calls on all members of the Bucknell Community, Greek and non-Greek, to actively work to eradicate hazing in any form.
