As artistic director of an international dance company which performs to exceptional critical acclaim in the United States and abroad, Alonzo King collaborates with noted composers, musicians, and visual artists to create original works that stretch and renew the traditions of western dance. He has been honored with the Bessie Award for Choreography, NEA and Irvine Dance fellowships, and five Isadora Duncan Awards. In 2005, he was named a Master of African- American Choreography by the Kennedy Center. He is a former commissioner for the city and county of San Francisco, a writer and lecturer on dance, and an inspiring and legendary teacher.
