Sofia Festival Orchestra
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1 8 pm | $25 Martin Panteleev, conductor Terrence Wilson, piano soloist Founded in 1986 and made up of Bulgaria’s leading musicians and former principals of Europe’s best-known orchestras, the Sofia Festival Orchestra is making its North American debut tour. The orchestra has recorded for Sony Classical, Roberto Salemi, ENAM, and Hungaroton under the baton of Emil Tchakarov and Julian Kovachev, among others. The orchestra performs regularly in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, and Switzerland.
A native of the Bronx and a graduate of New York’s worldrenowned Juilliard School, Terrence Wilson has appeared with major orchestras in most American cities including those of Atlanta, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Dallas, Detroit, Baltimore, and Houston, to name a few. Abroad, he has performed with ensembles including Switzerland’s Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic at the Dewan Philharmonik Petronas, and the Estonian Conservatory Chamber Orchestra in a concert that was televised in 9 countries and radiocast live in 14. He is recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, Juilliard’s Petschek Award, and the SONY ES Award for Musical Excellence and has been featured on NPR’s Performance Today, WQXR radio in New York, and programs on the Bravo, A&E, and PBS networks.
