Performing an All-Russian Concert of Piano Music by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and the original version of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at An Exhibition (with the pictures)

Winner of the gold medal and first prize in the 2005 World Piano Competition, Ilya Yakushev won his first prize at age 12 in the Young Artists Concerto Competition in his native St. Petersburg. Among many other awards, in both 1997 and 1998, he won first prize at the Donostia Hiria International Piano Competition in Spain. He received “The Award for Excellence in Performance” from the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation in 1998. In 2000, at age 19, he moved to New York to study with Dr.Arkady Aronov and, currently, legendary pianist Vladimir Feltsman. He has won numerous awards at the Mannes College of Music and has performed in Finland, Singapore, Italy, Malaysia, Germany, and Indonesia. This program of all-Russian music will include Tchaikovsky's Dumka, Prokofiev’s Seventh Piano Sonata, and the original version of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, the last accompanied by projections of the works which most likely inspired the composer.
