Why Bucknell?
"I came to Bucknell after attending an overnight program for admitted minority students - I’m half Hungarian, half Filipino. It was a huge deciding factor for me. Through the program, I was able to spend several days on the campus and tour the facilities. It helped me really get to know Bucknell through my interactions with the students and faculty, and I soon fell in love with the campus. Bucknell is a good fit for me because I have a perfect balance of everything I want in a college - I have great friends, amazing professors, and so many different activities to suit my interests."
Dual major
"I eventually want to work with alternative fuels - with the marketing aspect as well as product development and design. To meet my goals, I needed a school where I could not only learn the engineering basics, but also tweak the program to give me the proper business background to excel in my field once I graduate. I’m in the five-year Engineering-Management program, which is relatively new and has only 10 students. I’ll graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering as well as a Bachelor of Management for Engineers.
"I like that I’m getting a well-rounded education at Bucknell. I’m able to take a broad spectrum of courses in both the liberal arts and engineering – from basic computer programming to thermodynamics and English literature courses.
"Thanks to my professors, I’ve uncovered a love of lab work. I used to hate lab, but here I’ve found that doing hands-on experiments really helps me learn the stuff I’ve had difficulty with in lecture."
Student ambassador
"As a student ambassador, I helped out during Commencement and Reunion. I helped decorate and run events, which gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of alumni. Meeting and talking to the alumni gave me insight into the Bucknell they knew, and I was able to give them insight into what Bucknell is like now. It was great to share our experiences, and it was a fantastic networking opportunity.
"There is so much to do on the Bucknell campus that I never have to leave. I have played club soccer, and I absolutely love going to the gym. I also work at Seventh Street café, and I was a math tutor for the Writing Center. I write features for The Bucknellian, which has allowed me to meet so many people and learn about so many different clubs, events, and activities. It’s been fun. I also give tours of the engineering facilities, and hope to become more involved in professional societies like the Society of Women Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering."
