Why Bucknell?“The year I started here was my dad’s 20th reunion from Bucknell. I’ve visited so often over the years that Bucknell has become a second home to me. However, I didn’t choose Bucknell simply because I was a legacy. I chose Bucknell because it offers such a wide range of courses and has a strong commitment to undergraduate research. “I knew before I came here that I wanted to be involved in research. I’ve worked for two years in Ken Fields’ (assistant professor of biology) laboratory. I really enjoy biochemistry research because it involves problem solving and there is always an outcome, although it might take time to get the research to work.” Academic Adventures“One of the best courses I’ve taken at Bucknell was my university course on the AIDS epidemic. The course was team taught by five professors across a wide spectrum of professions, a sociologist, a chemist, an economist, a cell biologist, and a biologist. The course was especially meaningful to me because it helped me to share my experience of traveling to South Africa and working with people with AIDS. “The Residential College was another wonderful academic experience. I really loved the whole living and learning experience. The Residential College helped me to focus on all the great options that this school has to offer. I enjoyed it so much I applied to be a Junior Fellow in the Residential College my sophomore year.” Campus Activities“You can lead many different lives here at Bucknell: I’ve presented my work at a research symposium, volunteered with my sorority and Catholic Campus Ministries, tutored local school children through Bucknell Buddies, served as a Junior Fellow and an R.A. (residential assistant), and tutored college students at the Writing Center.
"It’s been a perfect undergraduate institution for me. It has really allowed me to spread my wings, not just within science, but outside of science as well. Bucknell has so much to offer, I can’t do everything and I hate that. There are so many options of activities and interests. If I could begin again as a first-year student, I would and I would do it even differently just so I could try new things. I love the time that I have spent here and I’m anxious to come back as an alumna. It’s fun to be a Bison and that’s something that I’ve seen ever since I was young, with my father — his pride. And he loves to come back for football games. It’s something really neat and very special for our family.”
