Music
All candidates for a Bachelor of Arts in Music or a Bachelor of Music degree must submit prescreen materials and, if invited, audition to complete an application for admission—even if they do not wish to receive scholarship consideration.
In order to receive consideration for the highest levels of arts merit scholarship award in music, candidates must declare in their applications an intended major of either the BA (Bachelor of Arts) in Music or one of the BMUS (Bachelor of Music) degree paths (performance, education, composition, or history and literature).
For all music degree candidates, both for the BA or BMUS: you may switch your intended music major, for instance from the BA to the BMUS degree or from one BMUS track (performance, education, composition, and history and literature) to another at the time of your audition by completing in person a change-of-major agreement form.
Along with an application for admission, please submit the following:
- Music Department on-line form (separate from the arts merit registration), which you may access here: http://www.bucknell.edu/x1197.xml
- Performance résumé
- Recommendation from music instructor that discusses your training
- Score samples (for composition majors only)
- Do NOT send recordings
Non-music majors who wish to participate in music-department ensembles, chamber groups, and accompanying may compete for scholarships of no more than $2,500. Recipients are required to contribute to and make progress in the music department program and take private lessons in their primary performance area (the fee for which is waived).
To receive scholarship consideration as a non-music major candidate, please submit the following:
- Recording that features a solo performance, not ensemble work; is 10 minutes in length; and is clearly labeled, both the jewel case and the recording, with name, address, intended major, and instrument.
- Early Decision admissions candidates: please submit your recording to the music department by November 15, 2010.
- Early Decision Round II and Regular Decision admissions candidates: please submit your recordings to the music department by January 15, 2011.
- Please note that non-music major candidates will not be accommodated for in-person auditions.
