The Teaching and Learning Center runs a number of programs and workshops throughout the year designed to foster reflection and conversation about teaching and learning.
Programs for New Faculty include a a pedagogy and course design workshop in early August, a day-long orientation to Bucknell, a community orientation for families of new faculty, and the New Faculty Pedagogy Series, a weekly luncheon discussion group designed to assist and support new faculty as they adjust to their first year at Bucknell.
The Arts & Sciences Faculty Learning Series in the fall and the Engineering Faculty Learning Series in the spring are lunchtime discussion groups on a wide range of topics. The presentations are short and designed to fit an already busy schedule while providing an opportunity to keep in touch with other members of the faculty. Lunch is provided, and RSVPs are required.
Faculty Learning Communities are intended to provide venues for faculty to study and collborate with colleagues interested in the same topic. FLCs are not part of the formal governance process; rather, they are designed to function as an arena for faculty to share ideas and investigate a topic that they are passionate about. The participants most often meet weekly through the course of the semester, and focus their discussion upon a text or a selection of readings. Ideally, the research and discussion will culminate in a faculty presentation and/or a white paper.
