Bucknell hosts Family Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University will host its annual Family Weekend Oct. 26 to 28. The following events are open to the local community:

Samek Art Gallery Exhibition Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibit: "Three Sides to a Sheet of Paper. How Prints Communicate, Represent, and Transform (1482-2002)," Elaine Langone Center.

Theatre Friday and Saturday 8 p.m., Powers Theatre, Coleman Hall. "True West," a drama about life in contemporary America, directed by Bob Gainer; for mature audiences only. Advance tickets ($8, $6 for senior citizens) are available from Weis Center Campus Box Office weekdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling 577-1000, or at the door one hour before each performance.

Hilltop Film Series Friday 8 p.m., Gallery Theatre, Elaine Langone Center. "Ringu", a Japanese thriller.

Music Friday 7:30 p.m., Weis Center for Performing Arts: Bucknell University Jazz Band, directed by Dale Orris. Saturday 11 a.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts: Pro Musica Prague will perform a free family matinee of "I Went for a Walk and Ran into an Orchestra…" Saturday 8 p.m., Weis Center for Performing Arts: The Pro Musica Prague orchestra in concert. Tickets are $20, available via the Campus Box Office webpage [http://www.bucknell.edu/BoxOffice], by phone (570-577-1000), or at the door.

Sports Friday 7 p.m., women's soccer vs. Lehigh. Saturday 10 a.m., club rugby game vs. Susquehanna; 1 p.m., Bucknell vs. Holy Cross football; 1 p.m., field hockey vs. Lafayette; 1 p.m. men and women's swimming; 4:30 p.m., men's club lacrosse; 7 p.m. men's soccer vs. Lafayette. Sunday 9:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. women's water polo invitational; women's soccer vs. Lafayette; 2 p.m.

Open House Saturday, 8 to 11 p.m.: Observatory: view the stars (weather permitting), tour the facility and listen to physics and astronomy professor Michele Thornley give the short talk, "A New View of Planets," at 8 p. m. and again at 9:30 p.m.

Lewisburg Friday 10 p.m.: Rocky Horror Picture Show and Costume Contest, [costume contest at 10:30 p.m., show at 11 p.m.,] Campus Theatre. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Bucknell Box Offices and Campus Theatre. Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Bucknell-themed tours, Packwood House Museum.

Other events include:

Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Chi Omega Make-A-Wish Auction, north end of Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Purchase raffle tickets for the silent auction (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Prizes include an iPod Nano and $100 from Foot Locker, plus other merchandise from Lewisburg's Market Street stores.

Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bisonland Children's Area, Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, with inflatable rides and activities. (will be cancelled in the event of rain).

Sunday 8:30 a.m., football practice fields. "Paint Bucknell Pink 5K Run," sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer. Registration is $20.
