One-on-One Guidance

In addition to programs and workshops, the TLC offers one-on-one guidance to help faculty members address areas in which they'd like to improve.

Individual Teaching Consultation

The faculty director of the Center will meet individually with faculty who request a personal teaching consultation.  Or, if more appropriate, the faculty director will arrange a personal teaching consultation with one of the members of the Faculty Advisory Committee on Teaching or another experienced faculty member.  The consultation can be related to any topic within the areas of teaching and learning, including course design, managing discussion, using technology in the classroom, all forms of pedagogy, integrating teaching and scholarship, etc.

Classroom Visitation Consultations

Classroom visitation consultations are intended to provide faculty with individualized feedback on their teaching.  The faculty director of the Center, or another faculty member trained in peer review of teaching, will visit your classroom and provide constructive feedback.  The goal is to enable the teacher to establish his/her course and teaching objectives and then receive feedback on the extent to which those objectives have been achieved.  Classroom teaching consultations are confidential and are intended solely for purposes of faculty development.  They are not evaluative in any way, and they may not be used as part of the promotion and review process.  As part of this consultation, the faculty member may choose to have the classroom experience videotaped.
