The Mechanical Engineering Department at Bucknell University seeks outstanding applicants for three (3) tenure-track faculty positions at the entry-level, assistant professor rank starting in August 2009. Qualified applicants for entry-level positions will have no more than four years of full-time teaching experience after receipt of the Ph.D. at the time of appointment. We are seeking individuals with the enthusiasm and ability to teach broadly across an undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum, the ability to clearly communicate complex technical topics to students, and a familiarity with basic instrumentation, laboratory instruction, and the supervision of student projects.
Specific qualifications required for each of the three positions are:
- for position 1, broadly-based experience in the area of thermal or mechanical systems with an interest in sustainability, alternative and renewable energy, or other related areas;
- for position 2, the ability to teach solid mechanics, finite element analysis, and related areas;
- for position 3, the ability to teach manufacturing processes and related areas.
For any of the three positions, experience in controls, materials, design, and/or mechatronics is advantageous.
Applicants must have an ABET-accredited degree in mechanical engineering (or the equivalent), and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely-related discipline. Clear evidence of potential for excellence in teaching is essential. Demonstrated potential for high-quality scholarship and continued professional development is also required. A commitment to institutional and departmental service is expected.
