Series of forums allow community to voice concerns about arming PS officers

The Bucknell Student Government (BSG) Advisory Committee led a student open forum Thursday to discuss whether or not the University’s Public Safety officers should be armed.

The advisory group, along with the University Campus Security Task Force, will present their recommendation to the Board of Trustees, who will make the final decision.

“Regardless of the outcome, Public Safety has been servicing Bucknell for 50 years and will continue to do so in the same manner,” Chief of Public Safety Jason Friedberg said.

The Task Force consists of General Counsel Wayne Bromfield;  Dean of Students Susan Hopp; Paul McGuire, professor of mathematics; Chief of Staff Dave Myers; and David Surgala, vice president for finance and administration.

The advisory committee consists of BSG President Sarah Cummings ‘08; Interfraternity Council President David Quinn ‘08; Panhellenic Council President Stacey Swift ‘08; Thomas “Spike” Short ‘08, committee on complementary activities co-chair; Alice Lakian ‘09, multicultural council of presidents; Emily Haley ‘09, vice president of Residence Hall Association; and Student Representative at Large Justin Alsop ‘10.   (read full article)
