Creating a Statemenf of Interest for Externships

You must write a statement of interest for each externship you apply to. Each statement of interest should be approximately 250 words in length describing your interest in that particular externship and covering:

• Why you have selected this particular externship
• How it will support your career goals
• What experience you would like to gain from the externship

Write each statement of interest independently, as it will go un-edited to the sponsor with whom you are matched.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology in hopes of attending medical school, so I am eager to gain some experience in the field.  An externship with Associated Cardiovascular Consultants will provide me with a unique opportunity to gain this experience while creating a working relationship with a practicing professional.  In pursuing this externship, I hope to gain on honest view of the daily routine of a physician – the interactions with patients, the stress, the problems, the prescriptions.  I am particularly interested in becoming a cardiologist, so the experience at Associated Cardiovascular Consultants will be especially beneficial to my future.  It will give me an opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and procedures for treating coronary problems while gaining a deeper understanding of the profession itself.  Observing the dynamic of this practice will also be useful, as it will enable me to understand the lifestyle of a physician both in an office and a hospital.  From each perspective, I hope to see for myself what my future will entail so that I may more successfully prepare for it as I further my education.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and French in hopes of eventually finding a job in the financial district in New York City.  I would be very excited to have this externship at Societe Generale because I am interested and eager to learn about corporate and investment banking.  Also, I am drawn to it because it is a French bank, and French is one of my majors.  I feel that this externship in particular would be a very valuable experience because it would give me the opportunity to further my understanding of equity financing.  I am very interested in the stock market and participate in the Investment Club at Bucknell.  I love it because it offers a fast-paced environment that one has to stay on top of.  I like to be challenged with balancing many jobs at once, and keeping busy is extremely important to me. 

I am looking for an externship that will give me an honest view of what people do on a daily basis at Societe Generale.  I am very eager to learn and develop knowledge about the financial world so that I can choose the best path for myself upon graduation from Bucknell.  I know that I have a lot to learn, and I would be so grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this externship so that it can further my education and expose me to an area that is so important in the financial world today.

            I am a English major at Bucknell University and am enthusiastic to partake in this externship program.  I am involved in the Art Society at Bucknell where members learn about different art fields, through speakers, to gain awareness of the many art-related paths we can pursue.  While guest speakers are informative, an externship with Art Publishers would be an exceptional opportunity because I can have two days of experiences that I am sure will impact me more than I can imagine.  I am amazed by the opportunity to meet artists in field because this will augment my understanding of an artist involvement and impact on the publishing industry.  I am even more eager to observe a publisher at work and be astounded by the dedication and skill level an art publisher must possess.  Finally, shadowing an established artist with a passion for his or her field of expertise will be greatly advantageous because I will have a role model to guide me towards a field that would be of great interest to me.
