Community Events
Periodically, the Writing Center invites visiting and local writers to discuss their writing process in an informal, brownbag lunch format. Guests in recent years have included Laurie McCants, Theo Bleckman, Sandra Kohler, Yi-Fu Tuan, Don Mullan, Lesléa Newman, Brian Teare, Betsy Wheeler, and Bucknell faculty members Christopher Camuto, Ron Mohring, Eric Faden, Renée Gosson, F. Elaine Williams, Paula Closson Buck, Virginia Zimmerman, Joe Gauhghan and friends, Eduardo Corral, Porochista Khakpour, Rebecca Black, Alf Siewers, Gary Steiner, and Karline McLain.
The Drew Darrow Memorial series honors the memory of Andrew Darrow, Class of '86. A student employee of the Writing Center, Darrow later worked as an actor in New York City. He died in 1997. The first Drew Darrow Memorial Reading, held in February, 2002, featured poet Ruth Ellen Kocher, an alumna of the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets now on the faculty of the University of Missouri in St. Louis. Readers in successive years have included poet and former Writing Center staff member Laurie Kutchins (2003), and "former Younger Poets" Jeff Hardin (2004), Mary Szybist (2005), Ilya Kaminsky (2006-2007) Kyle Dargan (2007-2008), Oni Buchanan (2008-2009), and Rebecca Black (2009).
