This novel by prolific Lebanese writer Elias Khoury was named Le Monde Diplomatique Book of the Year in 2002. The novel is based on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, from the perspective reflected in stories from Palestine. First published in Arabic by a Beirut publisher in 1998, then translated into Hebrew and French, the novel is similar to the lyrical literary style of One Thousand and One Arabian Nights.
