First translation from Arabic into English. This novel by prolific Lebanese writer Elias Khoury was named Le Monde Diplomatique Book of the Year in 2002. The novel is based on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, from the perspective reflected in stories from Palestine. First published in Arabic by a Beirut publisher in 1998, then translated into Hebrew and French, the novel is similar to the lyrical literary style of One Thousand and One Arabian Nights.
